The tale of Barca’s humiliation against Bayern continues…

Barca was dealt a devastating blow by Bayern as history was again made from the encounter.

The last game that messes Barca up big time

The last time these two met did not end well for Barcelona as they were trashed 8-2 on aggregate by Bayern, in what was dubbed an embarrassing night for the Catalans, and that game changed the course of everything from that moment. It is 2021/2022 season and the dice have been cast, and it’s like a dejavu that these two are meeting again.

A lot has happened at the cam Nou this season, the club is a financial wreck, and that has seen their best player of all time leave on a free to PSG. Barcelona will be playing the UEFA Champions League for the first time in more than fifteen years without their talisman Lionel Messi.

The Catalans started the front attack with Memphis Depay and Luuk De Jong. The Catalans were mauled again by the Bavarians in what appeared to be like training for the Germans. No single shot on target was recorded by the club for the very first time in their Champions League history. It was a very easy ride for the Bavarians as they showed class and proved that they were in a finer form than the Catalans. Barcelona could not get their bearing, thus making it very difficult to test the German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer all night.

Barca’s star man Memphis Depay was caged all night.
Lewandoski had a torrid night before scoring twice.

Bayern opened the scoring from a Thomas Muller shot that was deflected leaving Ter Stegen helpless. Barcelona had difficulty in stringing passes together and as a result, they could not do much upfront. Memphis Depay is no Lionel Messi, and even the latter was in the team last season when they were humiliated by the Bavarians. Luuk De Jong was nowhere to be found on the pitch.

Barcelona is now at the bottom of Group E, thereby, putting more pressure on their underfire boss Ronal Koeman.

“we would have loved to compete as a team, but there is a big difference in the quality of the team, even their bench tells it all.”

“Nonetheless, we have players with great futures but for now we need players back from injury. They were lucky with their first goal, from the second goal it was difficult for us going forward was a problem.”

Lewandoski celebrating after his second goal against Barcelona.

“They are a better team than us and that is our position for now.”

“Jordi Alba was ill last night and he still played, he was very tired, and we did not want to risk him but he had to play. The same is for Luuk De Jong, this is his first game.”

Before the kickoff, a banner showing “Koeman out”, was hoisted, and was later removed by the club staff, in the wake of their thrashing by Bayern.

“We are not favorites for the Champions League at the moment, but there is hope that we are going to be competing surely”.

Gerard Pique drew all the positives for the night as a club faithful, “we had young players making their debut in the Champions League, we also have Ansu Fati, Kun Aguero, and Ousmane Dembele set to recover from injury, at the end of the day there is hope”.

Ronald Koeman looked dejected witnessing the mauling of his team.

Koeman is on a hot seat now, particularly after the match, an emergency meeting was called by the president and the board members. Laporta spoke with Mateu Alemany and Rafa Yuste in a discussion that lasted till the early hours of the morning.

The purpose of the meeting is currently unknown, but one thing is sure, a quick decision will not be made over the future of the embattled coach. Koeman has not been a favorite at the Camp Nou ever since he was signed, his tactical approach at times could also be questioned if he understood the club’s philosophy.

The Spanish press labeled the Barca team weak and poor in the wake of this defeat, and they think otherwise with respect to the excuses being made by Gerard Pique and the coach.
