Los Blancos grab a late win to make life hard for Inter Milan in Group D of the UCL.

Group D has always been termed the group of death most times, it usually consists of strong ties, therefore, making it a tricky group to be in a football context. Last night’s encounter was no different with the two strongest of the group locking horns, sincerely, the fixture was a blockbuster and it was action-packed as both teams battled to the last whistle.

Los Blancos came into the game with a boost of confidence have defeated Celta Vigo 5-2, with their number 9 Karim Benzema in fine form leading the Madrid attack. Karim Benzema scored a hattrick, while Vinicius Jr., and new signing wonder kid Camavinga sharing one to themselves.

The group consisted of FC Sheriff, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and Shaktar Donetsk. The star match for the night Inter home to Madrid, Los Blancos were the visiting the team. Los Blancos started with a 4-3-3 formation, while the Nerazzuri’s were up against them with a 3-5-2 formation, with Lautaro pairing up Edin Dzeko upfront in a two-man attack formation, while Karim Benzema, Vinicius Jr., and Lucas Vazquez led the attacking trio for Madrid.

The fans were certainly entertained and totally in support of the home team as they thundered chants from the stands, and that boosted the morale of the players.

Ivan Perisic equally came close in the 16′ with a header that went wide in what was a night of attacking football to the excitement of the fans and the viewers at home. The Nerruzari’s fans heart was broken in the 89′ minute when the new signing wonder kid Eduardo Camavinga was introduced alongside Rodrygo, the introduction of the duo changed the course of the game.

The dagger to the heart happened in the 89′ minute when Federico Valverde exchanged passes with Camavinga, the latter ran into box eighteen and Valverde chipped the ball over the Inter defense, Camavinga cleverly did a square jab into the waiting hands of Rodrygo. The Brazilian did not hesitate with a low drive volley that beat Smir Handovic completely to put Madrid ahead, the goal sent a cold chill across the stadium, because the fans knew quite well, if there were to be a winner, it was supposed to go to the home team because of all their effort. That moment of loss in concentration cost them the well-deserved 3 points or at worse a draw.

The outcome of the match leaves Inter in the third position in Group D, FC Sheriff is on 3points, a point they share with Real Madrid, and both standing in first and second position.
