Bayern Munich are Champions of Europe after a narrow win against PSG, lifting the UCL for the 6th time.

Bayern Munich is Champions of Europe in a beautiful fashion as they lift the European Champions League for the record 6th time. The Bavarian as they are being called beat the Parisian to the coveted trophy by a goal to nil. The match was played in an empty stadium just like all other matches after the lockdown as a result of the global pandemic that broke out across the globe.

The French newspaper had a caption that summed up the Parisians night with their star player weeping uncontrollably as the whistle sounded marking the end of the game, the paper captured it as “Inconsolable”.

Missed chances by Mbappe against Bayern Munich

Youth sensation Kylian Mbappe came close to scoring for PSG but he could not convert his chances up against Manuel Neuer. The French star faced Manuel Neuer more than one time and could not convert any of the chances he had. Just like the game Bayern Munich versus Lyon, Memphis Depay and Ekambe failed to take the chances they had and they were later punished in the match by Bayern.

Currently, the Bavarians are in the best form of their live dumping Barcelona out of the competition by thrashing them 8-2. The last time the Blaugrana’s were beaten by an 8 goal margin was in 1946 against Sevilla. The defeat has caused a lot of shakeup at the Nou Camp with sporting director Eric Abidal and Coach Quique Sentien sacked, and also the majority of the fans calling for the resignation of the club president.

Kingsley Coman scored the only goal in the 59th minute after a tweak in the German formation by Hansi Flick that saw Ivan Perisic sit on the bench in place of a much more pacy Coman, and the tweak paid off as they got the goal that made them Champions.

Kingsley Coman made the night unbearable for the Parisian right back Thilo Kehrer as he could not contain the Bavarian for speed and the dribbles that were thrown at him. Coman a former PSG player got the goal in the 56′ that broke the hearts of many of their fans.

It wasn’t only the papers in France and Germany alone that reacted to the defeat, Marca in Spain wrote a caption that read “Money does not bring happiness”, taking a slight jab at the French giant’s financial power and the fact that they are yet to win the European Champions League.

Thiago Silver PSG’s captain is set to depart the club and the match against Bayern was his last match. His destination is yet unknown as there suitors across Europe for his services with Chelsea on the frontline of the clubs he is likely to join. Thomas Tuchel, on the other hand, is sensing the swinging axe could come his way.

Manuel Neuer deserved all the praise for the night and attained the same heroic feat in the semi-final that saw him deny Depay and Ekambe registering a goal.

PSG  is close to hitting the £1billion mark with the likes of Neymar and Mbappe to mention but a few in their dugout plus a world-class coach Thomas Tuchel, with them not securing the most sort after trophy, the fate of coach Thomas Tuchel will be hanging on the balance.  The star players for the first time played the way we had never seen before and we have to give them that, the player-coach relationship was at its best showing how badly they wanted that cup.

That bond is about to be shattered as rumour has it that Barcelona are still willing to push for Neymar and Captain Thiago Silver who has marshalled that defence line since he was purchased in 2012 is about to depart to Chelsea on a free transfer.

Presnel Kepembe has emerged as the best to pair the captain fantastic in the central defence, anyone who is going to fill Thiago Silver’s void has to be very good and rock-solid.

Abdou Diallo 23 who joined from Dortmund las year is a good option to pair Kepembe at the back. Another option is Marquinhos who Tuchel prefers to play as a defensive midfielder.

The likes of Laurent Blanc, Carlo Ancelotti, Unai Emery has all come and gone, winning just the French league and other domestic cups is not the goal of the club, they have their eyes set on the Champions League and failing to do so now puts the coach Tuchel in a precarious situation.

Rumour making the rounds now have it that coaches are lined up for the coaching role at PSG with former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri on the wing.

Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte is another linked to that position after their defeat to Sevilla in an emphatic thrilling match that saw them beaten by 3-2, is also thinking about his position.

After the defeat to Bayern, the Parisian faithful might be thinking of restructuring, with Neymar linked to Barcelona and Kylian Mbappe’s destination in 2021 most likely going to be Liverpool or Real Madrid. If the duo of Neymar and Mbappe stays and the Tuchel retained, it may be a question of make or break for the club as they push for glory for the final time to make sure they secure the UCL trophy. The guarantee of them staying together for a long time is not uncertain.

PSG must find some spark again to attempt getting to the final of the UCL next term. It is quite painful that their academic graduate Kingsley Coman was the one that got the goal, this poses a serious question as to the plan the club has with their youth system which has just Kepembe come through to the first team.

The project is to see PSG being ranked within the circle of elite clubs in Europe, to achieve that you have to do it by winning a major trophy in Europe like the UCL and not by the amount of money you have.

Kylian Mbappe said before the Sunday final, ‘ this is an opportunity for us to be counted within the circle of the elite clubs in Europe’.

‘We know how much of a big club we are and how much we have worked hard to get here’.

Those words could hardly hold ground now as they were beaten and left to try another day. They need to beat big clubs in Europe when it matters most as there are few competitions in the French league as some call it ‘the farmers league’.

They were close to achieving their ambition to be counted among the European elite clubs but fell short of it, with the club not having any clear direction and system this leaves them to start from square one.
