AFCON 2019: Qualified Teams and Grouping

The 32nd edition of the African Cup of Nation has kicked off with teams slogging it out with themselves, in what is being seen as the greatest AFCON of this century. we shall be looking at the qualified teams and their various fixtures. A total of 24 teams have made it to the finals of this years AFCON in Egypt with the likes of the host country(Egypt), Nigeria, Uganda, Senegal, Algeria, etc. Starting off on a good note, securing all three point.



This year’s AFCON has been named the best AFCON of this century because of the various reforms by CAF to the competition, usually, it was held in January/February and it also consisted of 16 teams, but this year witnessed a great change as the number of teams were increased to 24 and the date moved to June/July 2019.

Three new teams comprising of Madagascar, Burundi, and Burundi were included, thus making the competition bigger and better, making it a total number of 6 groups.

Mohammad Sallah – Egypt

Mo Sallah nicknamed “Egyptian King”, has the hope of locals rested on him to lift the AFCON cup for his country. He had a spectacular season with his club Liverpool F.C. as he was an integral part of a star-studded side that shook Europe eliminating the likes of Barcelona to lift the trophy, definitely he is our star focus for this year’s AFCON.

Sadio Mane – Senegal

Sadio Mane had a fantastic season with Liverpool F.C. so, therefore, he makes the cut for our player watch for the AFCON 2019. Some quarters of Liverpool fans think he is the best player they have got while others think otherwise. Offers coming from football giants Real Madrid and Barcelona makes him a player to look out for.

Samuel Chukwueze – Nigeria

One of the fastest rising stars of 2019 at 20years of age, Samuel Chukwueze has been in blistering form for Villareal this season, he helped them beat Barcelona where he put a magnificent display and ended up catching the attention of the footballing world as he mesmerized Jordi Alba on several occasions that night makes him our player to watch for Nigeria. No doubt Nigeria has an array of stars with the likes of Ahmed Musa, John Obi Mikel, Odion Ighalo, etc. Chukwueze remains our player focus.

Wilfried Zaha – Ivory Coast( Cotedevoir)

Wilfried Zaha is our man to watch in the Ivorian team, having shone in the EPL this season, this man is being sought after by many English clubs, the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United are after him, he himself said earlier that he wants to have a taste of the champions league, so a move away from crystal palace is likely next season. He is a joy to watch and we should look out for his incredible abilities in this year’s AFCON.

Riyad Mahrez – Algeria 

Our player focus for Algeria is no one but Riyad Mahrez, the Mancity star has been in superb form and was also instrumental in Guardiola’s team that lifted the EPL 2018/2019 season. He is the captain of Algeria and he is our player to watch for AFCON 2019.
